Historic Chattahoochee Commission & Columbus State University to Host Lecture on March 15, 2013
The Historic Chattahoochee Commission, Columbus State University's History and Geography Department, and Mercer University Press invite the public to attend a special lecture and book signing by Dr. James Hunt on March 15, 2013 in the Spencer Events Hall. Admission is free. Dr. Hunt will be speaking about his recent book, Restless Fires: Young John Muir's Thousand Mile Walk to the Gulf in 1867-68. The book provides a detailed rendering of the legendary naturalist's journey through the South after the Civil War, which took him through much of Georgia. Dr. Hunt is Professor Emeritus of History at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Dr. Hunt will sign copies of his book at 4:30 PM (ET) and the lecture will begin at 5:00 PM (ET). The Spencer Events Hall is located on the main campus of Columbus State University. The HCC is a state agency of both Alabama and Georgia charged with promoting heritage tourism, history education, and historic preservation within the Chattahoochee Trace region of southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia.
