Creek Paths and Federal Roads: Russell County and the making of the American South
Please join us on a special panel symposium investigating one of the most fascinating eras in Russell County history. Our focus will be the Old Federal Road which once ran through the heart of the county and over which traveled Indians, pioneer settlers, and armies.
Featured speaker Dr. Angela Pulley Hudson, Assistant Professor of history at Texas A&M, will discuss her recent critically-acclaimed book, Creek Paths and Federal Roads. Dr. Terry Winemiller, Associate Professor of Anthropology at AUM, will discuss the Old Federal Road Project. This creative digital project is a collaborative effort to provide a virtual tour of this historic route.
(Guided tours of Fort Mitchell historic Park and the Chattahoochee Indian Heritage Center, led by Dr. John Cottier and Billy Winn, will take place on Saturday, May 25th)
The program is sponsored by the Historic Chattachoochee Commission, the Phenix City-Russell County Chamber of Commerce, and the Alabama Humanities Foundation, a state program of the national Endownment for the Humanities.
